The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is located in the center of the city and represents the biggest collection of European artworks in Moscow. The museum was founded in 1912 by professor Ivan Tsvetaev with sponsorship help of Yuriy Nechaev-Maltsov. Together they decided to present the city an outstanding museum of fine arts.
Collection of the Pushkin Museum consists of diversity of artworks by Western artists from antiquity to the XX century. For the first thirty years of it's existence the museum had a lot of objects of art which have been transferred from other museums. Thus, in 1923 the museum got paintings from State Museum Fund and Moscow Public Museum, in 1930 the Hermitage paintings of Botticelli, Cranach, Poussin and David were transferred as well.
During the tour you will have a unique chance to see Troy's gold, found by archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, artworks of impressionists and post-impressionists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Gauguin, Matisse and Dufrenoy.
Nowadays collection of the Pushkin Museum includes more than 560 000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, works of applied art, numismatic and archaeological monuments, art photography: they are all represented in the halls with varied and unique interiors.
