Aleksandrov: From Ancient Russian Capital To The Capital Of The 101 Km Mark

The history of Alexandrov begins in 14th century, and since then it has always been a residence of Tsars. Ivan the Terrible made Alexandrov his official residence and has even built there a palace, but after his son's death caused by him personally he never came back. Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, Peter I, Tsarina Elisaveta Petrovna - they all lived in Alexandrov in different time. Their influence and personal tastes both have reflected in Alexandrov's architecture.

In the 20th century Alexandrov was known as a "capital of the 101 km mark", where public figures, victims of Stalinist repressions, were forced to live: writer Jozsef Lengyel, the artist Victor Toot, translator Boris Lehtinen, architect and archaeologist Peter Baranowski, chemist Leo Polak.

You will also visit museum of sisters Anastasia and Marina Tsvetaeva which is located in the house where they used to live. The exhibition not only tells you about the famous poetess, but is also related to living in "capital of the 101 km mark" in general, which was an interesting phenomena in Russian history.
